A bus stop is a place to wait, but the one on Linz’s Nibelungen Bridge is a very special bus stop—one that calls upon people to get active! This bus stop has morphed into a showcase for the presentation of 52 ways to save the world. Each week, there’s a new idea to get people to finally start taking matters into their own hands.
Peer Deep into Outer Space! (30.03.2009)
On Friday, you can travel the universe right inside the AEC! Spectacular images from the Hubble Telescope will be shown in "Deep Space". Stop by and experience breathtaking pictures of distant galaxies.
“A Change of Scenery” for Works of Art in the Lentos’ Permanent Collection (30.03.2009)
The freundinnen der kunst (Girlfriends of Art) are giving four works of art from the permanent collection of the Lentos a change of scenery and, in doing so, inviting art lovers to give some collaborative thought to the art museum per se and have some input into its future direction.
The last days of “The Führer’s Capital of Culture” (27.03.2009)
More than 56,000 visitors have already viewed “The Führer’s Capital of Culture” at Linz’s Schlossmuseum. Due to continuing strong public interest in this presentation of one of the darkest chapters in the city’s history, the exhibition is being held over until March 29.
Linz vs. Vilnius: Victory is a Matter of Taste (26.03.2009)
An incredibly exciting finale is in store for Linz vs. Vilnius spectators! Last week, the Lithuanians tied up the match 2:2. The true European Capital of Culture titleholder will now be determined by one of both peoples’ favorite subjects: food.

The Schäxpir international theater festival presents fantastic, touching and exciting maritime adventures on stage aboard the MS Schönbrunn. All plots were penned by Linz school kids.
enter my bubble: The Peaks and Valleys of Life in Switzerland (26.03.2009)
Linz09’s Extra Europa project is bringing “enter my bubble,” a prizewinning performance by Swiss dancers Katy Hernan and Christoph Leuenberger, to Linz. Audience members can look forward to a daring balancing act between cliché and profundity.
“Universum” Tracks Linz’s Fauna (26.03.2009)
“Linz Is Alive!” Nature filmmaker Erich Pröll provides graphic evidence of that in his documentary the ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Company will televise on April 7 as part of its “Universum” series. Along railway roadbeds, in warehouses, sandpits or backyards, the Capital of Culture’s fauna displays unexpected biodiversity.
Boundless Culture at Transborder Café (26.03.2009)
The Norwegian artists’ collective Pikene på Broen is just a 15-minute drive from the Russian border and only 50 minutes from Finland. Accordingly, the members know a thing or two about boundaries and cordially invite the public to a discussion of them.
School Classes in the House of Stories (25.03.2009)
Beginning in April 2009, the House of Stories will also be welcoming school classes. Prior to regular opening hours, the 17th-century residential building’s premises offer plenty of room for two classes to use in order to implement their own projects.
Kepler Salon Moves on to the Next Round (24.03.2009)

Three Additional Biennale Cuvée Venues Are Now Open (12.03.2009)
The Biennale Cuvée exhibition has been getting rave reviews from visitors to the OK Offenes Kulturhaus since late February. On Thursday, March 13, 2009, three satellite locations in the vicinity of Linz’s main train station were opened.

Scholarly Confrontation “The Sound of Power” (12.03.2009)
Continuities and discontinuities in cultural policymaking with respect to music in Linz and the surrounding region before and after 1945 will occupy the focal point at “The Sound of Power” March 20-21. The conference agenda also includes two concerts featuring works by composers the Nazis classified as degenerate and subjected to racial persecution.

Parade – Peripatetic Music from All Over the Planet (11.03.2009)
A very special parade will be wending its way through Linz in early May. Three routes through peripheral parts of town will be accompanied by the tones of instruments from all around the world. This fascinating project is now online with its own website.

This series brings up-and-coming musical acts from the new EU member states to show their stuff on stage at Linz’s Posthof. On March 13, it’s Hungary’s turn.
EXTRA EUROPA – Cultural Festival & Symposium (09.03.2009)
Is there a “European” culture? And what share is contributed by EU non-member states like Norway, Switzerland and Turkey? From March 19 to May 3, EXTRA EUROPA is staging a series of events, conferences and symposia that will examine how European these countries feel and how that manifests itself in the art created there.
A Discussion Focusing on Europe (05.03.2009)
“Extra Europa” kicks off with a two-day symposium featuring an array of prominent participants. They’ll be scrutinizing the continent’s diversity, examining the question of European identity, looking at how the EU is seen from within and without, and dealing with the challenges facing Europe.
North, South, East – Music from the Extra Europa Countries (05.03.2009)
Of course, the launch of Extra Europa has to be celebrated in a way befitting the magnitude of such an event. There’ll be plenty of opportunities over two days. Here as well, the accent remains on Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.
The Istanbul Oriental Ensemble in Hafenhalle09 (05.03.2009)
Burhan Öçal is a major star in Turkey. The percussionist, composer and singer will be making a guest appearance at Hafenhalle09 on March 21 at the invitation of Extra Europa.

Burhan Öçal provides a musical lead-in to the most extensive part of Extra Europa—a cultural festival running from March to early May. Plus, there’ll be additional projects in the spirit of Extra Europa throughout the remainder of the Capital of Culture year.
Can Contraband Bring Linz the Victory It So Desperately Needs? (04.03.2009)
The “Linz vs. Vilnius” Capital of Culture duel’s next skirmish on Wednesday, March 4 has to do with history. Books were once smuggled into Lithuania as well as into Upper Austria’s Salzkammergut region. The audience will crown the more spectacular narrative.
ECOC Cancels Meeting in Vilnius (04.03.2009)
In the wake of drastic budget cuts and the dismissal of Vilnius’09’s director, Linz09 and nine past and future European Capitals of Culture have cancelled their conclave that had been set for March in the Lithuanian capital.
