“Linz Is Alive!” Nature filmmaker Erich Pröll provides graphic evidence of that in his documentary the ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Company will televise on April 7 as part of its “Universum” series. Along railway roadbeds, in warehouses, sandpits or backyards, the Capital of Culture’s fauna displays unexpected biodiversity. The image of Linz as a smoky steel town has long been passé. Europe’s 2009 Capital of Culture has gone green—more than half the cityscape is gardens, parks and fields—and is full of greenery that often flourishes in seemingly inhospitable niches and offers an environmental foothold for numerous creatures.
Erich Pröll presents fascinating footage that documents the lives of wild animals in his hometown. This is an adventure tour of a very different sort: on little cat’s feet through the narrow lanes of the Old City, in nosedives from the cathedral’s steeple, or precision acrobatics through the trees of downtown parks. Tune in and enjoy images of Linz from extraordinary, captivating perspectives.
