Linzers have a long history of concern for social issues and taking a serious, active approach to them. There are many locations around town where struggles for social welfare causes can be commemorated. The “Activistas” project does just that.

These bus tours cover the whole city. “From One Struggle to the Next” takes participants to the sites of labor actions like demonstrations, protests and strikes. Women’s everyday life on the job—first and foremost in the Linz textile industry—is the theme of the “Struggle, Embroidery and Roses” tour. “Papers, Work, Terms of Residence” is an excursion that goes way beyond your typical bus outing; this encounter has to do with work then and now, migration, state regulation and self-empowerment. “Activistas” is an outgrowth of the trafo.K bureau’s collaboration with various Linz institutions including the Gewerkschaftsjugend Oberösterreich union youth group, Linz Art University, Radio FRO and the Pedagogical Institute of the Diocese of Linz.
