The freundinnen der kunst (Girlfriends of Art) are giving four works of art from the permanent collection of the Lentos a change of scenery and, in doing so, inviting art lovers to give some collaborative thought to the art museum per se and have some input into its future direction.
Each of the four works is a portrait. What the four individuals have in common is a form of longing. The freundinnen der kunst have invented four stories about the individuals depicted. The respective narratives suggest four locations at which the protagonists will now spend their 26-day vacations in the safekeeping of their caring hosts. This change of scenery is meant to be accompanied by some changes on the part of the guests, their admirers and their hosts too.
On homecoming day, April 30, 2009, the four works of art will be returned to the Lentos, where they’ll give an account of their outings in the form of a diary or a photo album.
