How well do you know the history of this city? Are you aware of where the centers of Nazi power were located, and which buildings had an especially close connection to the darkest chapter of Linz’s past? IN SITU explains these locations’ links to history right on-site.
Since early March, numerous sites in Linz have been marked in a very special way—with large-format stencils used to spray-paint texts on the ground that call attention to these locations and explain their connection to recent history. This isn’t a matter of well-known structures like the Brückenkopfgebäude or the VOEST steel mill; IN SITU deals with inconspicuous buildings and common, everyday public squares whose historical significance is widely unknown.Project staffers are marking 65 such sites, all of which are indicated on a special city map available at the Linz09 Infocenter. The project also maintains a website www.insitu-linz09.at that provides additional information, which will be published in book form in early April.
