Traces of the Nazi Past, Here and Now (27.02.2009)
Revealing the Nazi past of the Brückenkopfgebäude (Bridgehead Building) on Linz’s Main Square is the aim of Linz09’s “Amidst Us” project. An integral part of it is Hito Steyerl’s new video installation entitled “Der Bau” (The Construction).
A World-class Selection of Contemporary Art in Linz (27.02.2009)
This is the third year that the OK Offenes Kulturhaus Oberösterreich is showcasing works from some of the world’s most important biennial shows of 2008. “Biennale Cuvée” opens at the OK on February 27 and moves to three other locations in mid-March.
A Jewish Festival in Theatrical Form (26.02.2009)
The Jewish festival of Purim is an occasion for boisterousness, merriment and rebellion. The festivities resemble the Catholic Mardi Gras celebration. Now, a play by dramatist Joshua Sobol produced by David Maayan is bringing Purim to Linz’s Cembran Keller.
Volunteers Sought for Klangwolke 2009 (26.02.2009)

The Heat’s on Linz: Vilnius Leads 1:0 (24.02.2009)
Linz is slowly getting backed into a corner! In the test of strength between capitals of culture that got underway Monday, February 23, 2009, Vilnius got off to a one-point lead. Lithuanian writer Laurynas Katkus delighted the audience with his texts and emerged victorious over Upper Austria’s Franzobel.
“Picnic on the Battlefield” in Opposition to War (20.02.2009)
The Landestheater hosted the world premiere of the opera “Picnic on the Battlefield” on Friday, February 20, 2009. Under the aegis of Linz09, a work was created that portrays the absurdity not only of war but of everyday life as well.
Enchanting Sunday for Families at the Nordico (20.02.2009)
Since early February, the Nordico Museum of the City of Linz has been completely under the spell of magicians, illusionists, fortune tellers and card sharps. Plus, there’s utterly enchanting family-style entertainment including a magic show every Sunday at 3 PM.

The English version will be posted shortly. Am 20. Februar 1909 veröffentlichte Filippo Tommaso Marinetti das „Futuristische Manifest“ im „Le Figaro“. Auf den Tag genau 100 Jahre später antwortet ihm Peter Androsch mit seinem „Akustischen Manifest“ in eben diesem französischen Traditionsblatt.
India Discovers Linz: Added Performance of “Ecdysis” on Friday! (19.02.2009)
The snake will be shedding its skin one more time! Due to popular demand, Linz09 has added an additional performance of Arjun Raina’s poetic and humorous play to conclude Linz09’s Theater Mania1: Snowstorm festival.
Free Shuttle Bus to Hammerweg in Traun (19.02.2009)
In Hammerweg in Traun, a working-class housing complex is being temporarily converted into an art museum, rooms in which people used to dwell turned into exhibition spaces, and their inhabitants made over into actors. Linz09 is supporting the project with free round-trip shuttle bus service from the Capital of Culture.
Confronting the Nazi Past (18.02.2009)
New forms of narration have been collected in Linz09’s “History Book” from Niko Wahl. This publication, which will be presented on February 27, sheds light on many different aspects of the darkest epoch of the 20th century in Linz: the time of National Socialism.

In March the “Cultural Capital Neighbourhood of the Month” project invites its aficionados to a unique blind date. Households and local institutions in Kleinmünchen and Auwiesen throw open their doors to visitors in an engaging gesture of hospitality: “One day and one night in the suburb”.

The name Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec evokes images of Paris nightlife at the turn of the 20th century. Perhaps his famous Moulin Rouge posters come to mind. That the artist’s work had many other facets too will be brought out by “Toulouse-LautrecLandesgalerie Linz beginning February 28.
A Look behind the Façade (12.02.2009)
The so-called bridgehead building links the Nibelungen Bridge with Linz’s Main Square. It’s one of the few architectural projects that the Nazis actually completed in Linz. The “Amidst Us” project takes a radical step in order to reveal the building’s history.

Indian author and performer Arjun Raina has explored Linz from his own unique point of view. The result of his research is “Ecdysis – The Snake Sheds its Skin.” The upcoming world premiere of this play commissioned by Linz09 is part of the “Theatre Mania1: Snowstorm” theatre & dance festival lineup.

The next exhibition at Wissenschaftspark in Gelsenkirchen, Germany focuses on the visual language of the Capital of Culture. Works by Linz09 photographer Paul Kranzler go on display February 17.
Artist’s Breakfast with Arjun Raina (06.02.2009)
Linz09 invites you to go on a journey to India this Saturday. Arjun Raina, the author of “Ecdysis,” will discuss his play that will be making its world premiere on February 16 in Linz. Linz’s Taj Mahal Indian restaurant provides the sumptuous ambience.
GEO Saison Spotlights Linz and Upper Austria (06.02.2009)
Europe’s 2009 Capital of Culture is featured in the January issue of GEO Saison, a leading German-language travel magazine. Editor-in-chief Lars Nielsen will do some Q&A in Kepler Salon on February 10 in the spirit of “Hamburg Meets Linz & Upper Austria.”

A Doctoral Dissertation about the Capital of Culture (03.02.2009)
A Ph.D. candidate at Buckinghamshire New University is writing her thesis on the Capital of Culture year in Linz and the transformation of the city’s image that’s going along with it. Part of her research is a questionnaire that’s quick and easy to fill out!

Following exhibitions at biennials in Istanbul, Venice and Berlin, renowned artist Kutlug Ataman puts his great creativity on display in Europe’s 2009 Capital of Culture. The Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz is dedicating a major solo exhibition to his artwork’s social criticism.

Early in the Capital of Culture year, this country marks the 75th anniversary of the Austrian Civil War that broke out in Linz. On February 12, Linz09’s “Civil Wars” project will look into what remains of February 1934.

One of the world’s great contemporary authors pays his respects to his deceased colleague. On February 12 in Linz, Louis Begley will read from Thomas Bernhard’s works.
What Does the Capital of Culture Have to Say about National Socialism? (03.02.2009)
Two Linz09 exhibitions, “The Führer’s Capital of Culture” and “Political Sculpture,” are contributing to the process of coming to terms with the city’s Nazi past. On February 10, a panel discussion will deliver an interim appraisal and provide a forum for debate.
