Fairytale Creatures on the Loose in Downtown Linz! (27.08.2009)
The Klangwolke (Cloud of Sound) is Linz’s signature alfresco extravaganza. Ever since this legendary event debuted in 1979, it annually attracts a crowd topping 100,000 to the riverside Donaupark. The 2009 Klangwolke will be a full-day production.

Visualizing what can be heard is what “See this Sound” is all about. An exhibition focusing on the interplay of sounds and images opens at the Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz on August 28.

The University Network of the European Capitals of Culture (UNeEEC) is a platform for universities and other institutions of higher learning located in cities that have been, are or will be European Capitals of Culture. This autumn the Network is due to meet in Vilnius; registration for visitors has started and will end in September.

Linz’s Hauptplatz is the site of a futuristic piece of architecture featuring a reflective metallic façade—the Base Camp of the “80+1 – A Journey around the World” project. This building is the setting for global excursions via satellite and fiber optic cable to the furthest reaches of our planet.

Europe’s been naming Capitals of Culture since 1985. Among the spin-offs have been wide-ranging networks of all sorts. The EU Art Network, a coalition of European artists, will be holding a multi-day symposium in Linz at which attendees will also consider the Capital of Culture concept.

There are so many impressive vantage points around Linz. But the opening of the Linzer Eye provides an observation platform that reveals some fascinating new perspectives. This rotating island will soon be floating on the Danube. A wonderful spot for riverfront relaxation!

Join the Friends of Kepler Salon now! (01.08.2009)
Kepler Salon has become synonymous in Linz and beyond with lowering that threshold that cuts so many of us off from specialist knowledge of the most diverse kinds. Since the beginning of this year the Salon has served as a venue for popular science in the best sense of the word. A wide variety of topics were presented here and developed with enthusiastic participation from the audience. Making sure that this institution will be continued beyond Culture Capital year is one of the aims of the newly founded Friends of Kepler Salon.
