Now Hear This: Nine-Minute Radio Plays

A competition launched last spring invited authors to submit short radio plays on the subject of “industry.” The jury has reached its verdict and the winners can now be announced.
Jurors Peter Klein of Radio Ö1, Alfred Pittertschatscher of Radio Oberösterreich, Gerald Hanisch and Andrea Eichlberg of Rubble Master HMH GmbH, the company that initiated the competition, and Linz09 Musical Director Peter Androsch have evaluated about two dozen entries and singled out three for recognition. The guidelines stipulated freely produced German-language radio plays not more than nine minutes in length. A total of € 6,000 in prize money awaits honorees. The awards ceremony and premiere of the prizewinning projects are set for September 9. The productions will then be broadcast on the ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Company’s radio station Ö1 on September 15. “Radio Play,” a European competition, is set to run for three years; next up is “culture” (2010) followed by “nature” (2011).Radio Play
