From industrial town with an air pollution problem to a setting for high-tech and cultural diversity: these two poles bracket the process of transition Linz has undergone in recent decades. The “Linz. City in Luck” exhibition elaborates on what makes Linz Linz.
“Linz. City in Luck” is running until September 13 in the Nordico Museum of the City of Linz. This is a spirited encounter with the milestones that have left their mark on locals’ collective memory, with what’s especially characteristic of Upper Austria’s capital, with everyday life in Linz then and now, and with the city’s image in the rest of Austria. The exhibition’s physical setup is in the form of a dwelling: so-called steel-town kids romp and play in the children’s room, the study is a setting for an encounter with the workaday world, industrial plants get themselves spiffed up in the bathroom, and narrative accounts of the Capital of Culture are served up in the kitchen. And—no small feat—all of it accomplished whilst dispensing with tedious didactics and dry-as-dust documentation.City in Luck
