A literary and linguistic journey of discovery being undertaken jointly by Europe’s two 2009 capitals of culture gets underway on Saturday, February 14 with a reading in Vilnius. Linz author Eugenie Kain will read from her works.
At the Vilnius Book Fair, an international publishing conclave held in the Lithuanian capital, Eugenie Kain will read excerpts from two stories, “Schneckenkönig” and “Sonnenstadt.” Jurgita Mikutyte will then deliver Lithuanian translations. On the occasion of this celebration of cultural exchange, Ulrich Fuchs, Linz09’s deputy artistic director, will present the Capital of Culture year’s literature program. One of its key elements is the “Linz Reads Vilnius” intercultural event series that will give Linz audiences the opportunity to hear Baltic authors Tomas Venclova, Arűnas Balténas, Giedra Radvilaviciűté and Sigitas Parulskis read their works in StifterHaus.
