Launch of the Concert Barge for the Linz Europa Tour West

The start of the Linz Europa Tour West is only 22 days away. Preparations are proceeding in high gear. The barge that Brandner Shipping is making available for use as a concert ship on the Linz Europa Tour 2007-2009 has been refitted for use in Western Europe. Now, installation work in the dry dock is finished and the ship is ready for launch at Linz Shipyard.

The Linz Europa Tour, Hubert von Goisern’s transcontinental adventure, is continuing on a westbound course in 2008. On June 26, the tug and barge flotilla will be setting off from its home port Wallsee for another two-month tour. This summer, the journey will proceed along some of Central Europe’s main waterways: the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, the Main and the Rhine, as well as the relatively narrow Neckar, which necessitated outfitting the barge with a bow thruster for improved maneuverability.

Some customizing has also been done on the basis of experience gained on last year's tour. In cooperation with Brandner Shipping, the Messe Linz event management organization and the tour’s technical staff, the concert barge has been outfitted with dormitory facilities for the entire cast and crew this year.

The ship’s core element, a hydraulic concert stage, has been optimized and upgraded with new visual elements to give it an even more attractive design.
Above and below deck, it’ll be close quarters for Hubert von Goisern & Associates this year, since there’ll be no separate dormitory ship on this leg of the tour. But there’s still more than enough room for interesting encounters.

The Linz Europa Tour West will be welcoming an interesting array of performers on board the concert barge this summer. This showcase of European cultural diversity includes BAP, Konstantin Wecker, Klaus Doldinger’s Passport and Xavier Naidoo. And veterans of the 2007 eastbound tour will be reprising Balkan Feeling at its best.
