Technical Data
The Floating Concert Venue
The 77x12-meter barge is originally from Oltenita, Rumania and was purchased by Brandner Shipping in 1992. Once in Austria, Brandner got it shipshape with an electrical equipment update and a new paintjob.
Previously, this barge has been used primarily to haul sand and gravel, but it’s also been involved in some outstanding cultural events such as the “Linzer Klangwolke” (Cloud of Sound) and “Stromlinien” (Streamlines) in Grein, Austria.
The Stage
The barge is now equipped with a hydraulically adjustable stage set featuring all the elements of a state-of-the-art concert venue including lighting and sound technology and an independent electrical supply. Two LED projection screens are set up to the left and right of the stage. The stage design was developed by Christian Fahrner and Fritz Fitzke. Stage master and coordinator in Linz is Gunnar Geiblinger.
The Technology
The stage set features 119 m2 of space; it’s six meters high. Since the ship has to be able to pass under bridges, the entire stage set assembly can be adjusted hydraulically from a maximum of 12 meters to a minimum of 5.30 meters. The electrical power required for the sound, light, LEDs, visuals and monitors totals approximately 280,000 watts. In a stowed position, the stage area can also serve as a rehearsal space. Plus, the stage and the barge have been equipped with performance features and designs developed especially for this project.
Technical Director of the Linz Europa Tour West is Christian Fahrner.
Visuals & Lighting Design
Lighting design for the Linz Europa Tour 2007-2009 is the work of Hans Duchan. Fritz Fitzke created the visuals.
