Ulrichsberg, a village in Upper Austria’s Mühlviertel region, and its surrounding countryside have provided inspiration for the musical themes of a seven-part work entitled “Landscape Opera.” The crescendo comes in June.

Local facts & circumstances prevailing in Ulrichsberg and Mühlviertel, traits of the inhabitants and characteristics of the landscape are the subject matter of “Landscape Opera.” This seven-part project that has been running for several months now is the attempt to take a new approach to opera as an artistic genre. The audio materials used in this concert by the improvisational trio “The Contest of Pleasures” are recordings made in Ulrichsberg during the days leading up to the performance. The live playback of a mix of this material will be accompanied, contrasted and underscored by the trio’s improvisations. The seventh act of “Landscape Opera” entitled “Dramatis Personae – A Feast” is the grand finale of the entire project. Musical performances, actions and installations that blend the foreign and the domestic, traditional and modern elements constitute a musical celebration of Ulrichsberg.
