Theatre Mania 1: Snowstorm is bringing world-class artistry to Linz. Here’s a brief rundown of two outstanding productions.
To create her play “Hell on Earth,” Argentine artist Constanza Macras recruited young people from Berlin’s Neukölln neighbourhood and put them on stage. You can see the results January 24 & 25, 2009 in Hafenhalle09. Reaching adulthood is a difficult phase; it becomes even more turbulent when factors like immigration and discrimination are added to the mix. These are the facts of life confronting young people daily in Neukölln, home of 150,000 inhabitants from 160 countries.“Wishuponastar & An Arab Dream” draw upon totally different cultural roots. Acco Theater Center is one of Israel’s most important strongholds of socially relevant drama. An essential part of its mission is to facilitate alliances among Arab and Jewish artists. In “Wishuponastar” by Smadar Yaaron, performers use their bodies to relate the history of Israel. The evening’s programme also includes “An Arab Dream,” an adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s “The Servant of Two Masters” set in contemporary Israel.
