The Capital of Culture year is a chance to present Linz and Upper Austria as a dynamic, modern region. Europe will get to see Linz as a high-tech, knowledge-based urban center in which culture and the cultural economy are taken equally seriously and, at the same time, tremendous emphasis is placed on ecologically-oriented quality of life.

Prosperous industry, the Danube and the splendid landscape along its banks, a thoroughly contemporary understanding of art—not only during 2009 but long afterwards too and beyond the realm of everyday cultural life, the capital of Upper Austria is advancing to European Capital of Culture.
