Kepler Salon
What’s mechatronics? Do human beings have free will? How does a heart valve work? KEPLER SALON was conceived as a place for encounters with science. Here, universities, educational facilities and hospitals impart knowledge, and work with scientists to make research accessible and comprehensible to all. KEPLER SALON serves as a window on the world of science and as an interface between scientific research and everyday life. It is thus an important contribution to our culture and way of life. The program includes short lectures, “knowledge exchanges,” disputations among experts, readings and experiments involving science and technology, medicine, the social sciences and the humanities. The SALON FOR QUICK WITS was conceived by KinderUniSteyr for kids age 7-12. Here, the accent isn’t on inculcating hard facts, but rather on nurturing curiosity about the world, having fun performing hands-on experiments, and the joys of scientific thinking.
Friends of the Kepler Salon
The Association of Friends of the Kepler Salon was established in July 2009. It’s mission: to enable Kepler Salon to carry on its program in the future. Anyone who would like to support Kepler Salon in doing so can become a friend. Details and the application form are online at www.kepler-salon.at. And don’t worry: Coming out in favor of Kepler Salon doesn’t mean you have to make a cash donation too! Your name and a declaration of support are a big help for a good cause.
KEPLER SALON 2010
KEPLER SALON has continued its work on behalf of science following the conclusion of the Capital of Culture year. KEPLER SALON now operates under the aegis of the forte FortBildungszentrum Elisabethinen Linz GmbH. Financial support is being provided by the Province of Upper Austria, the City of Linz and private sponsors. Program content is the responsibility of Christine Haiden, editor-in-chief of “Welt der Frau” and Iris Mayr. Since March 1, 2010, Rathausgasse 5 has once again been the place to go every Monday evening at 7:30 for fascinating takes on hot issues across the scientific and R&D spectrum. The Wednesday get-togethers are set aside for topics chosen by university scholars or the sponsors themselves.
