Roderich MADL (AT)
was born in 1963 in Salzburg. He completed his study of classical and modern dance at MUDRA – Maurice Béjart School in Brussels and at the Centre International de Danse in Cannes. He has collaborated with Tanztheater Wien, Bernd Roger Bienert, Nadine Ganase and the Esther Linley Company. Madl also works together with artists in other disciplines such as video artist Martin Kusch. He got started as a choreographer in 1989 and founded Pilottanzt in 1993. Pilottanzt has been honored with prizes from the Austrian Ministry for Science, Research and Art as well as from the Federal
Chancellery for “Borderline” (1993), “eros-ion” (1993), “Things from Above” (1995) and “ainos one” (1998). Pilottanzt successfully toured through Europe, Russia and Central America with “Things from Above” and “ainos one.” In 1997, Roderich Madl and Doris Ebner won the International Choreographers Competition in Hannover with their piece “Things from Above.” “ainos one” premiered in 1997 and was singled out for recognition with the Austrian Dance Prize. “Brut,” a short duet, and “E-N-D,” a piece created for the Hannover Expo, toured Europe in 2000. Roderich Madl is currently working on a dance and video series entitled “Living Kitchen” with Silke “Silk” Grabinger. “slik,” the first work to emerge from this collaboration, premiered in 2008 at Sommerszene Salzburg and the ImPulsTanz Festival.
