Membros come from Macaé, one of the city with Brazil’s highest murder rate. Their hip hop dance trilogy RAIO X, FEBRE and MEDO is packed with thrilling images and extreme stories. For its founders, Paulo Azevedo and Taís Vieira, Membros is as much a social as an artistic enterprise. For them, hip hop is a form of protest, a way of making people think about what society means. Their work offers a series of insights into what it is like to have to live with the destructive forces of violence and social division operating in inner cities in Brazil. Dance is a way of formulating alternatives, of ceasing to be a victim and establishing a degree of autonomy. The Membros Company is part of CIEMH2 Center of Integrated Studies on the Hip Hop Movement in Macaé founded by Paulo Azevedo and Taís Vieira in 1999.
