A new musical ensemble for the Capital of Culture.

Linz09 didn’t commission a prefab orchestra; it developed a musical group of its very own. Ensemble09, in its multifarious lineups, has been playing a wide array of gigs—concerts, multimedia offerings and theatrical performances—since mid-2008, and can thus draw upon an incomparable wealth of experience gained in its work for Linz09 as it moves on to new and different things.

The Ensemble’s core task was to provide musical accompaniment for more than 100 performances of the Circus project, to collaborate on various Linz09 productions, as well as to perform at Jazzatelier Ulrichsberg, Festival 4020 and various formal & official occasions. There’s undoubtedly no orchestra anywhere in this area that boasts such an extensive and diverse repertoire. ENSEMBLE09 was also conceived as a mediator, go-to/outreach agency, and communications forum at the interface of composers, performing artists and audiences from all walks of life.
