Europe has been honoring cities as Capital of Culture since 1985. This is an effort to highlight Europe’s diversity and to articulate and affirm different identities through culture. Linz now takes its place amongst this illustrious, constantly growing circle.
The EU ART NETWORK’s program truly enriched Linz09’s lineup August 20-29, 2009. It staged a symposium in the Traun Spinning Mill, an open house (actually window), an exhibition in the Schlossgalerie, a concert in the Castle and one in the Circus too. What the artists from numerous disciplines—visual arts, music, dance—had in common was that they all came from a past, present or future European Capital of Culture. This was congenial international networking on a high level.
With participating artists from Germany, Slovenia, Poland, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Greece, Finland, Luxemburg, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Portugal, Estonia and the UK, the EU ART NETWORK is an important step towards the development of a European network of artists.
