International children’s film festival

“Great art for young eyes,” dreams, longings, adventures and the pranks of streetwise kids were screened at the International Children’s Film Festival. Such films are truly exceptional compared to everyday fare served up at the movies and on TV—they’re entertaining as well as challenging, offer fascinating discoveries and journeys to distant lands and times. They invite audience members to give free rein to their emotions—to root for the heroes and laugh along with them. But they also reflect the hard realities of life as seen through the eyes of children. The aim is to stimulate young imaginations, to enable kids to learn, and to proffer excellent entertainment—for youngsters as well as their chaperones.
Each film was shown in its original (foreign language) version; simultaneous translation was provided live on site. An additional highlight was a dubbing workshop in which Upper Austrian kids could select scenes from four films and—with professional assistance—dub them with their own scripts. These scenes were then screened as the festival’s grand finale.
The 4th INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL of the Kinderfreunde OÖ (child welfare league) was held in November 2009 at Moviemento and City Kino. Approximately 1,600 moviegoers (young and old) attended the 18 screenings.
