Three thematic strands set the tone at the Ulrichsberg Music Festival. Jazzatelier Ulrichsberg commissioned French double bassist Joëlle Léandre to create CAN YOU EAR ME? This composition for improvising musicians was performed by a predominantly Austrian combo. Day 2 featured OMNIXUS by Ulrichsberg-based Tanja Feichtmair. In a collaboration with three musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area and sound technician Alfred Reiter, her concept of sounds moving in space was made to resound. Rhythms and patterns dominated Day 3, when Six+One painted WEAVING SOUNDS throughout the Leitner linen weaving mill with an improvised work that took the mill’s weaving workshop as its point of departure. The warp and weft rolled on in “For John Cage” by Morton Feldman; in creating this piece, the American composer was inspired by carpet weaving patterns.
