Aida Karic, a young Austrian director with a style all her own, transformed Schiller’s classic work into a contemporary interpretation that prominently features musical and visual elements. The cast consisted of actors, musicians and Gospel singers. This production transported its audience to a militarized society charged with a dangerous combination of religious zeal and ultra-nationalism. A young woman named Joan Dark rejects her conventional role and challenges the established order. Only to fail in the end.
