Ö Slam

The 2007 Slam in Vienna was a case of euphoria, effulgence, endorphin exudation—and the end came much too soon. The 2008 Slam in Innsbruck was scintillating, successful, sublime and—although a two-day event—could of stuck around a while longer too. In 2009 in Linz, everything was different (but some stuff stayed the same). Slam's up! Austria's 24 best and most active slammers showed off their verbal pyrotechnics, giving vent to their pent-up parlance and speaking in tongues ‘til stunned onlookers were on the verge of logos overdose. A poetry slam is a competition that has participants vying for audience favor with original material delivered live. Anything goes as long as it screams creativity and soul—storytelling, spoken word, standup shtick, hiphop & rap, linguistic experiments, dialect poetry, onomatopoeia, you name it. All in all: varied verbal torrents. In short: slam poetry.
On the first evening, the audience chose the talented 12 who had to battle their way through the quarter- and semifinals the next night. It came down to four finalists, with Zemler ultimately emerging as the deserving winner.
The Slam MC crew consisted of Medusa & Markus Köhle for textstrom and Didi Sommer & Linda Wallner for PostSkriptum.
