Is an author’s writing style the way he/she really is—some funny and offbeat; others serious and not so outgoing? A few lucky winners of a drawing got the chance to test this hypothesis at a tête-à-tête with a prominent Upper Austrian author. In Spring and Summer 2009, StifterHaus hosted a series of readings by Eugenie Kain, Margit Schreiner, Thomas Baum and Franzobel. At the joint reading on March 24, 2009 that kicked off this series, personal encounters with each of the four were raffled off. At each evening event staged in May and June, one of the four winners was invited backstage for a one-on-one chat with the respective author in the intimate confines of Herren Juhann and Jod’s lovingly restored trailer.
Franzobel staged his reading in Linz’s Volksgarten park, Eugenie Kain in Urfahr, Margit Schreiner in St. Magdalena and Thomas Baum in Spallerhof/Bindermichl. What exactly transpired during the four sessions in the trailer is anyone’s guess. All that can be said for sure is that afterwards, the many raffle non-winners who also showed up were treated to four evenings of literary pleasure.
