Moods, feelings and emotions can dispense with words. Music is a form of expression that transcends language barriers. And it’s even more effective when young people (and even little children) can experience and practice this global vocabulary in person. MEETING SPACE was staged by the music schools of Linz and Vilnius to instill an active approach to playing and appreciating music. Youngsters got the chance to attend workshops, to play in an ensemble, or simply to try out an instrument. This was a day of diverse musical encounters, “a unique opportunity to benefit and to learn from one another in an intercultural and interdisciplinary setting”, said Linz music school director Josef Oberneder. The of interplay of activities and interaction of cultures culminated in an evening concert featuring motifs from Linz’s partner city Vilnius. A corresponding event was held on December 6, 2009 at Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall in Vilnius in cooperation with the Vilnius Balys Dvarionas Music School.
