Linz09 flirted with every good-looking offer that came along. But in this instance, a brief affair wasn’t just tolerated; it’s what society demanded!

Linz09 indulged in ESCAPADES yet no scandal ensued. Interesting events involving Capital of Culture partners in and around Linz were supported by providing content, financing or communications assistance. A series of debates invited participation and seeing things from a different point of view. Workshops, symposia, discussions and speeches used the Capital of Culture seal of approval to attract those longing for something new for a change. The upshot was really attractive! In addition to the artistic contributions and cultural events, this approach initiated a discourse that was European in scope. From the beginning of 2006 to the end of 2008, Linz09 supported a total of 19 events within the framework of the ESCAPADES series. This was meant as a form of preparation for 2009—publicizing the Capital of Culture year as widely as possible, bundling energies and networking.
