52 ways to save the world
A good deed every day and everything will turn out alright in the end?
Adaptation – Anarchy – Awakening – Back to Nature – Beelzebub – Democracy – Design – Education – Energy – Enlightenment – Extinction – Flexibility – Modesty – Nobility – Repentance – Respect – and Zest for Life are some exemplary keywords that “52 Ways to Save the World” will bring to life with fascinating content.
This project’s mission is to provide a public showcase on a rotating, one-week basis for 52 individual initiatives worthy of notice and replication, actions that exemplify theories for redeeming our world. It’s meant to be enlightening, ironic and actionistic. The approach is to stage throughout the Capital of Culture year narrowly-focused interventions designed to articulate demands and calls for action or to simply voice protest and attract attention.
This call for submissions is addressed to all who haven’t lost hope and want to make a contribution to saving the world: associations, organizations, artists, activists and groups, whatever their fields of interest and expertise.
A centrally located homebase will be keeping locals and visitors updated about what’s been done so far as well as the current week’s project.
By the end of the Capital of Culture year, Linz09 will have explored 52 possibilities to make up for human shortcomings and to reverse some of society’s deplorable developments.
Now, Linz09 is staging a “52 Ways to Save the World” international idea competition that will make it possible for individuals to actually implement some of the countless possibilities to rescue our planet. The choice of the artistic medium is up to the entrant, as is the choice of theme.
Selected projects will be produced and presented for a week on a rotating basis. The maximum funding per project is 2,000 euros including the author’s fee.
Concept proposals (3 A4 pages maximum) can be submitted to Linz09 via e-mail to 52wege@linz09.at Entry deadline is May 30, 2008.
