Hubert von Goisern: Linz Europe Tour 2007 – 2009
From June to September 2007, he sailed a freight barge converted into floating stage all the way down the Danube to the Black Sea. For Hubert von Goisern’s band and crew, the ship served for two and a half months as living quarters, workplace and performance venue all rolled into one. During this journey, Goisern and his band gave 22 concerts in nine countries, and at each location, they were joined by artists from the regions the tour passed through. The return from the eastbound excursion was celebrated with a gala concert at Linz Harbor, where 8,000 attendees gave an enthusiastic reception to a mix of Alpine folk music, inspired interpretations and fresh Eastern European pop and rock from. Ever some of Goisern’s greatest hits took on a new and different feel in this fascinating musical company.
The Linz Europa Tour will be westbound in 2008: the route will be the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal and the destination is Rotterdam. The stops on the next stage of the tour will be announced in November 2007. The expedition’s grand finale festival is set for summer 2009, when a multi-day event at Linz Harbor will reunite all the participating artists in a major concert event.

Hubert von Goisern (*1952) is deemed to be the founder of alpine rock. His very own approach to traditional folk music made him the most important representative of new folk music. He is known for his collaboration with Tibetan, African and Arabic musicians. His projects and tours always stand for cultural exchange between musicians to break through barriers of origin, skin colour, language or religion.
