THEATER MANIA 1: SNOWSTORM, the international theater & dance festival now running in Linz, proudly presents the world premiere of “The Anthology of Optimism” on Thursday, February 5, 2009. A production of the Belgian company Campo in collaboration with Linz09, brut Wien, Camp X Kopenhagen and KunstenFestivalDesArts Brüssel goes off in search of optimism.
Jacob Wren and Pieter de Buysser have consciously structured “The Anthology of Optimism” as a social research project in theatrical form. A dyed-in-the-wool optimist and an equally convinced pessimist undertake manic investigations and meticulously collect insights as a means of arriving at generally valid truths that, even in the 21st century, are just now surfacing.
After a scientific approach to defining terms, the two protagonists begin making their way through four stages, amassing material and in an ongoing theatrical process gradually approaching realizations. Only the results themselves are presented in the performance.
THE ANTHOLOGY OF OPTIMISM is produced by Campo, the well-known Ghent company founded in 1992 as Victoria that has over the years come to specialize in theatrical projects that are as unusual as they are fascinating.
There will be an audience Q&A session following the performance on February 6, 2009. THE ANTHOLOGY OF OPTIMISM will be presented February 10, 11 and 12, 2009 at brut Wien (brut Konzerthaus).
