Just prior to the launch of the Linz Europa Tour West on June 27, 2008 in Obermühl, Austria, the ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Company yesterday (Tuesday, June 24, 2008) presented the first five episodes of its series documenting Hubert von Goisern’s extraordinary concert tour along some of Europe’s great rivers.

With his Linz Europa Tour 2007 – 2009, Hubert von Goisern is bringing a one-of-a-kind touring concept to fruition. As goodwill ambassador for Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture, he has embarked on a two-stage journey by ship that, upon completion, will have covered a total of 12,000 kilometers on Europe’s rivers. The entire production is being accompanied by a TV crew. Now, the ORF is premiering the cinematic log of the Linz Europa Tour East, Goisern and Co.’s Summer 2007 excursion to the Black Sea. This five-episode series co-produced by NGF Nikolaus Geyrhalter Filmproduktion will be broadcast in July and August 2008 on ORF2.

GOISERN GOES EAST. The Concert Tour on TV

The audience at yesterday’s preview gave GOISERN GOES EAST rave reviews. This five-part TV series by Markus Wogrolly, Robert Lakatos and Harald Aue accompanied the tour all the way to the Black Sea and captured some incredible images along the Danube: of the concerts at which Hubert von Goisern was joined by a wide array of local musicians, of the landscapes and people that are still very much unfamiliar to most Austrians, and of life aboard ship.

The Linz Europa Tour TV documentary was shot in nine countries. The film crew included two directors: Markus Wogrolly accompanied events and daily life on board the ship while Robert Lakatos focused on the artists themselves and their milieus in the respective host countries.

GOISERN GOES WEST. The Tour Continues

Now, it’s time for the ship convoy to set off on its westbound leg. The Linz Europa Tour West will kick off on June 27 with a concert at Obermühl, Austria (Schlögener Schlinge). From there, the journey heads up the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, the Main, Rhine and Neckar. Destination: Rotterdam. The lineup includes 30 concerts featuring guest artists Konstantin Wecker, BAP (fronted by Wolfgang Niedecken), Xavier Naidoo, Klaus Doldinger and Marie Daulne (creative mastermind of the Belgian band Zap Mama). And the TV crew will be on board once again. Finally, all the acts that Hubert von Goisern will have encountered along Europe’s great river roads will be united at a big Linz harbor festival entitled “Back Home.” Linz09 Artistic Director Martin Heller: “Here in Linz, many voices will join together to encapsulate what’s been going on. And they’ll do so right in the middle of the Capital of Culture year whose mission is to enable us to live out and experience what Europe means. The Linz Europa Tour is doing a wonderful job helping to accomplish just that.”

Launch in Obermühl, Austria (Schlögener Schlinge)

A concert on June 27 in Obermühl on the Danube will kick off the West Tour. Sharing the spotlight will be stelzhamma. This band put together by saxophonist/composer Karlheinz Schmid will be living out a completely new musical approach to its own Upper Austrian roots in this exciting on-stage encounter with the boys fromBad Goisern.
