“All hands on deck” in Wallsee!
Ship Inspection Tour and Cast-off

Wallsee, Lower Austria, Brandner Schiffahrt GmbH, Pier 50
Hubert von Goisern,

stellen das Gesamtprojekt auf dem Schiff vor.
Hubert von Goisern’s flotilla casts off on June 20th from Wallsee, the home port of Brandner Shipping Co., and sets sail on the first leg of the Linz Europa Tour.
At 5 PM, visitors will have an opportunity for an on-site inspection including a tour of the concert ship and a presentation of the people working behind the scenes: Brandner’s nautical crew, the cook, the concert technicians, the film crew and many others. Plus, the Messe Linz employees who converted the ship into a floating stage will demonstrate the technical infrastructure’s capabilities.
The Floating Village
The Dormitory Ship
Just like its name suggests, the dormitory ship provides living quarters for the artists, technical personnel and the project crew during the tour. It provides a 33x6 meter space for crew members to kick back and make themselves comfortable. This ship has been part of the Brandner Shipping family for almost two years, and is thus the youngest member of the flotilla.
The Tugboat - MS Wallsee
The MS Wallsee was originally christened MS Erdberg when it was built in 1970. Brandner Shipping bought it in 1984 and renamed it after Wallsee, the Brandner Brothers’ hometown and home port.
What’s so special about it is the huge motive force that this 29x5 meter waterborne workhorse can generate. After having seen action in a wide variety of hydraulic engineering projects, it was completely overhauled in the mid-‘80s. Since 1985, it’s been the tug for the jumbo barge “Drei Gebrüder” (Three Brothers).
The Barge
The 77x12-meter barge comes from Oltenita, Rumania and was purchased by Brandner Shipping in 1992. Once in Austria, Brandner got it shipshape with an electrical equipment update and a new paintjob.
Up to now, this barge has been used primarily to haul sand and gravel, but it’s also been involved in some outstanding cultural events such as the “Linzer Klangwolke” (Cloud of Sound) and “Stromlinien” (Streamlines) in Grein, Austria, where an on-board audience of 1,000 slowly cruised past a theatrical performance being staged on shore.
The barge is now equipped with a hydraulically adjustable stage featuring all the elements of a state-of-the-art concert venue including lighting and sound technology and independent electrical supply. Two LED walls are set up to the left and right of the stage. The barge also features additional windlasses on its bow and stern so that regardless of whether the flotilla docks on the left or right bank of the Danube, there’s always an unobstructed view of the stage. In stowed position, the stage area can also serve as a rehearsal space or a sound studio.
Plus, the stage and the barge have been equipped with performance features and designs developed especially for this project.

HUBERT VON GOISERN on Tour with BRANDNER Shipping
The Artist’s European Tour Kicks off June 20
Hubert von Goisern, a man from the Austrian Alps, and Brandner, a family-owned and –operated shipping company whose home is the Danube, are setting off on a “joint journey.” This waterborne concert tour will be making Europe’s big river resound with music, the universal language that’s capable of crossing cultural borders just like the Danube itself does. In fact, it was on board a fishing boat on that very river that this fascinating project was conceived by two men, Hubert von Goisern and Franz Brandner, who then went about combining their strength and enthusiasm to bring the idea to fruition. The first leg of this tour heads down the Danube to the Black Sea; next year's destination is Rotterdam. The flotilla is also designed to be a setting for intercultural encounters and to be a “home away from home” for musicians from many different countries, technicians and crew members.
Background Info
The “Hubert von Goisern Linz Europa Tour 2007 – 2009” represents a milestone in BRANDNER’s corporate commitment to cultural affairs. The artist’s musical journey along the Danube is designed to promote contacts among the countries and peoples along the route. The tour’s 103-meter-long flotilla consists of a transport barge custom-converted into a floating stage (length: 76.5 m; width: 10.95 m, weight-bearing capacity: approximately 2,063 tons), the tugboat MS Wallsee (length: 26.44 m; width: 5 m; output: 523 kW) and a dormitory ship (length: 33.21 m, width: 5.52 m) to accommodate the tour’s cast and crew.
The nautical know-how and marine equipment are being supplied by BRANDNER. This family-owned and –operated enterprise is providing the ship flotilla including all the necessary customization work and the entire ship’s crew at a cost that doesn’t even cover the firm’s out-of-pocket expenses, and is thus making a substantial contribution to subsidizing the project. Yet more powerful testimony to BRANDNER’s high level of commitment to cultural life involving the Danube and inland waterway navigation.
Graffiti Art Aboard the Flotilla
While the naked human being is the main attraction of the decorations that adorn the dormitory ship, the barge that functions as the tour’s floating stage features an artistic rendering of the Danube along which the tour’s concert dates are symbolically represented as musical notes.
