YES09 has invited U-15 soccer players from ten European Culture Capitals and/or Linz’s twin cities to the capital of Upper Austria.
Boys and girls from Albufeira, Essen, Kosice, Linz, Maribor, Passau, Pécs, Tallinn, Tel Aviv and Vilnius are going to meet up in Linz for the Whitsun weekend for a European soccer event that is unique in its way.
The U15-Youth European Soccer Cup of the Culture Capital 2009 will be a climax of Culture Capital year – all the more so since it coincides with the LINZFEST09. We’re expecting 400 or so participants in Linz. (The LINZFEST will be featuring more than 100 artists and usually draws as many as 40,000 visitors.)
We’re extending a cordial invitation to all Linzers and to all visitors of the Culture Capital to welcome the young soccer teams of YES09 and the artists involved in the LINZFEST09, to support their favourite teams and to share in the fun of it. Admission to all games is free.
The teams are grateful for all the support they can get in their efforts to win the YES09 Challenge Cup.
Willi Lemke, the former manager of Werder Bremen, currently Special Adviser to the Secretary General of the United Nations and an avowed fan of YES09, will be the guest of honour at the kickoff on May 30.
