History of the Pixelhotel Organization
Fall 05The idea for a decentralized hotel in Linz, the Pixelhotel, emerged at a get-together of young architects organized in Linz by Sabine Funk and Christoph Weidinger.
Spring 06
The Pixelhotel concept was presented to Linz09 Artistic Director Martin Heller while he was touring Linz ateliers. He expressed great interest.
The Pixelhotel organization staff consisting of Sabine Funk, Jürgen Haller, Richard Steger and Christoph Weidinger got organized.
Summer 06
We* were commissioned by Linz09 to put together a preliminary project. Christian H. Leeb joined the staff to provide support in creating a business plan.
Winter 06/07
Further preliminary project phases in conjunction with the creation of a detailed concept for implementation of the initial locations ensued.
Spring/Summer 07
We* founded the Association for Re-urbanization and Urban Repair as the Pixelhotel’s formal legal entity.
Summer 07
Linz09 commissioned us* to set up the first two locations at Marienstraße 10a and Wimhölzelstraße 25.
Fall 07
With registration as a food & beverage business and the commencement of hotel operations, the Beta version of Pixelhotel was launched in September.
Winter 07/08
Over the coming months, the two locations were operated on a trial run basis and the line staff was assembled.
Spring 08
Gunda Wiesner was hired as rotating receptionist and to provide organizational support for day-to-day operations. Since then, Pixelhotel has been in regular operation.
Summer 08
Once the concept was subjected to a thorough audit and fine-tuned, Linz09 commissioned the development of four additional locations.
Fall 08
Gunda Wiesner went on pregnancy leave and Tanja Lattner took over as CEO. The third location at Graben 3 opened for business.
Three additional locations will open in the coming weeks; in early January, Pixelhotel will be in full operation with six locations dispersed throughout the City of Linz.
