ÖBB Lounge Linz Hauptbahnhof
The fastest connection between Vienna and Frankfurt—with departures every two hours daily and without having to change trains! For a year now, InterCityExpress train service has been bringing Vienna and Frankfurt a bit closer together. ICE trains not only guarantee optimum comfort and convenience; sleek, ultramodern design is also an integral part of the travel package. Linz09 is working together with the national railway systems of Germany (DB) and Austria (ÖBB) during the Capital of Culture year—the perfect occasion to christen an ICE train “Linz.”
The DB: A Reliable Partner for the ÖBB
An ÖBB Passenger Division welcoming committee proudly greeted the DB representatives who traveled to Linz on the soon-to-be-christened ICE. The DB is a reliable partner that has made available the ICE equipment that is now being offered as a DB-ÖBB joint venture.
ICE 4011 92 departed Frankfurt in the early morning hours to arrive in Linz on time for the naming ceremony at the Main Train Station. Notable attendees included Michael Brehm, DB’s head of international long-distance traffic in Southern Europe, Erich Forster, the ÖBB Passenger Division’s head of long-distance traffic, Robert Struger, regional manager of the ÖBB Passenger Division, Walter Putschögl, financial director of Linz09, Linz Mayor Franz Dobusch and Deputy Mayor Erich Watzl.
A Terrific Autumn Travel Value: ÖBB SparSchiene with Night Train Discounts
Fall is travel season! Now, with the SparSchiene, you can take the train to Europe’s most spectacular cities for as little as 29 euros, which makes it more economical and more convenient than ever to travel to top destinations in Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and many other countries.
Selected Cities at Sensational Prices
So if you’ve been putting off that dream vacation to great cities like Munich, Prague or Venice, then this is your big chance! With the ÖBB SparSchiene, city tours are easy to arrange and just as easy on your travel budget. Fares start at 19 euros for nearby cities: Budapest, Pecs, Graz and Prague; tickets to all other destinations start as low as 29 euros. Since these prices are so economical, the contingent of tickets for each train is strictly limited, so be sure to book early!
SparSchiene by Night: Wake Up and Let the Sightseeing Begin!
Board the train in the evening and wake up the next morning at your destination. Taking the night train has numerous benefits, and now there’s a price advantage too. In conjunction with the SparSchiene Autumn Night Train discount offer, a ticket for the EuroNight Train on selected routes (Hamburg, Berlin, Straßburg and Zürich) from October 17 to the end of November costs only 19 euros for regular seating and 29 euros in the sleeper car. And here’s a great deal for those who like added comfort: you can reserve a place in a two-person sleeper compartment for only 39 euros.
Combining Mobility and Culture: The ÖBB’s Passenger Division is Linz09’s Official Carrier
The signing of a letter of intent all the way back in 2006 announced the start of this joint undertaking by the ÖBB’s Passenger Division and Linz09 to develop attractive offers and products to benefit visitors to the 2009 European Capital of Culture, and to work together closely in public relations and marketing. The ÖBB’s Passenger Division is serving as official carrier for regional and long-distance passenger rail travel and is a Linz09 TOP Club Partner.
Linz’s Main Train Station as Portal to Europe’s 2009 Capital of Culture
As a spectacular work of ultramodern transportation architecture, Linz’s Main Train Station is the ideal portal to Europe’s 2009 Capital of Culture. This constructed space constitutes a perfect complement to a celebration of art and culture, a gateway that imparts a striking first impression to arriving Capital of Culture year visitors and thus serves as an attractive lead-in to the entire array of cultural offerings.
Attractive Rail Travel Offers
The ÖBB’s passenger division is offering discount fares in conjunction with the Linz09 Card. Holders of a Linz09 Card are entitled to a 25% discount on travel to and from Linz, and the discount goes up to a whopping 60% when the Linz09 cardholder also has a regular ÖBB VORTEILScard. This deal is available online or at the ticket window in any train station. Plus, Rail Tours Austria, the ÖBB’s travel agency, has put together several packages with Linz09 as their centerpiece. These offers commence during the weeks leading up to Christmas 2008 and continue throughout the Capital of Culture year.
