Political Sculpture
Press Release
17 September 2008
The works of Ernst Barlach, Ludwig Kasper, Josef Thorak and Fritz Wotruba provide visitors an opportunity to learn how each piece by each sculptor had been used to serve the political and social agenda existing before 1945 and again post-1945.
The lives and the works by these four sculptors are diverse in their association to National Socialism, and yet vastly representative of each artists’ philosophy of life, attitudes and fates. They provide a broad spectrum of the complex relationship and interaction between art and politics of the time period. The exhibition seeks to portray an extensive viewpoint by showcasing the works by each of these four sculptors.
