Hubert von Goisern at LinzFest

Celebrity Visitor to Donaupark: Hubert von Goisern made a guest appearance at LinzFest 2007.
The much-traveled musician and 2009 European Capital of Culture’s roving goodwill ambassador offered insights into his upcoming adventure: the Linz Europa Tour 2007 – 2009.

Michael Kerbler, producer at ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Company’s radio station Ö1, conducted the in-depth interview before a live audience on Saturday, May 26 in the Lentos Museum of Art’s auditorium. Hubert von Goisern spoke about his life and work, including his Linz09 project, the Linz Europa Tour 2007 – 2009. The interview will be broadcast as part of Ö1’s Zeitgenossen im Gespräch (contemporaries in conversation) series.


The Linz Europa Tour 2007 – 2009. An European Adventure.
Hubert von Goisern will set out from his home port Linz on a musical journey that will take him to the Black Sea and the North Sea as roving goodwill ambassador of the 2009 European Capital of Culture.

In 2007, Goisern will spend three months sailing east on the Danube aboard a ship featuring a built-in stage and accompanied by musicians from all of the countries on the tour itinerary. He describes their joint aim as “to make music as wordless communication that transcends borders.” The concerts presented from this waterborne musical venue will be broadcast on TV, radio and the Internet.
According to Linz09 Artistic Director Martin Heller, the tour is “an important part of the Capital of Culture year program—as an encounter with our European neighbors who are still strangers to some of us, as a token of a sense of involvement and commitment that is completely a matter of course for open-minded, curious Austrians.”

The flotilla that Goisern calls “my floating village” weighs anchor on June 20, 2007. The first—free—concert will be on June 22 in conjunction with Vienna’s Danube Island Festival.


Kickoff of the Big Tour
Music fans already got their first foretaste of the 2007 Tour on Sunday, May 27 on the LinzFest Main Stage, where Hubert von Goisern presented three of the bands that will be on board for his Linz Europa Tour: the Karandila Brass Orchestra featuring Darinka from Sliven in the Balkan mountains, Rumanian superstar singer/actress Loredana Groza, as well as the “King of the Balkan Dance Floor,” Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar.
