A Little Foretaste of the Big Viewing Spree

Linz09, Crossing Europe and the O.K Center for Contemporary Art jointly invited international guests to a “pre-premiere” of “Schaurausch” on April 26.

The first in a series of exhibitions that the O.K is curating in conjunction with Linz09 features 24 photographs by Elfie Semotan. The internationally acclaimed fashion photographer didn’t have supermodels in her viewfinder this time, though; her subjects were salespeople in Linz shops. These photographs are being exhibited (beginning on May 10) in 2½-meter-tall illuminated display cases, a brightly-lit counterpoint to Casino Linz’s Schillerpark shopping arcade.

International Guests
Numerous international journalists specializing in film and cultural affairs as well as many of the cinéastes in town for the Crossing Europe Film Festival going on now attended this event in Casino Linz. Linz09 Artistic Director Martin Heller, OK Director Martin Sturm, Christine Dollhofer, director of the Crossing Europe Film Festival, and the evening’s hosts—Andreas Berger of Austria Trend Hotel Schillerpark and Josef Kneifl of Casino Linz—greeted attendees and led a tour through the exhibition.

Cooperation: Linz09 and Crossing Europe
The opening of this high-profile exhibition simultaneously marked the beginning of a cooperative effort involving Linz09 and the film festival, a joint venture that will continue beyond 2009, Martin Heller emphasized. For Linz09, this was the first international platform for the Capital of Culture year. “Linz09 endows Crossing Europe with more weight and increased attention, and profits from the international reputation of the film festival. After all, this is already the fourth time that we’re hosting people from all over Europe,” Christine Dollhofer noted.

The official opening of “Schaurausch” (Viewing Spree - Art in 50 Shop Windows) is set for May 10, 2007.
