The Ill Rabitt // Another Day with my Family
Press information
20 August 2009
“Another Day with my Family” is the title of an exhibition by Marko Mäetamm. The artist from Estonia examines “the structure we call family – the social microcosm of hierarchy, lived roles, rituals, habits, noises and smells”. Above the heads of the exhibition visitors there are children playing on a specially made indoor playground. The exhibition opens on 25 August.
“Another Day with my Family” is about Marko Mäetamm’s relationship to his family, his anxieties, paranoia, secrets and doubts. The artist from Estonia shows himself as case study and example. In texts and objects, videos and murals. “I am interested in the different layers we find under the smooth surface of everyday life.”
“I try to find answers to my questions, and I hope this exhibition will encourage others to do the same,” says Mäetamm, who always also tells of his own experiences with his wife and two small children. “Please be my guest,” invites Mäetamm, “you are warmly welcome, even in the darkest corridors and dustiest corners of our house. Take your whole family along, and don’t forget the dog! I will try to make you feel at home.”
For children the exhibition offers a playground especially set up throughout the entire ground floor. The exhibition opens on Tuesday, 25 August at 8:00 pm in KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd, Goethestraße 30, Linz. It can be seen until 14 September, Tuesday to Sunday from 2 pm to 8 pm. This is a project in conjunction with The Ill Rabbit // Crazy About Linz, in cooperation with Linz09 European Capital of Culture.
