February 14, 2009, 5 PM
Lithuanian Exhibition Centre Litexpo, Vilnius
This joint project is a literary and linguistic journey of discovery between Linz and Vilnius, Europe’s two capitals of culture.
A reading in Vilnius on February 14 gets things underway. In conjunction with the Vilnius Book Fair (February 13-15), Linz author Eugenie Kain will read excepts from two of her stories: “Schneckenkönig” (snail king) and “Sonnenstadt” (sun city), “Sonnenstadt” is also Kain’s contribution to “Linz.Randgeschichten,” a collection of literary perspectives of the city astride the Danube by Upper Austrian authors (publisher: Alfred Pittertschatscher). Lithuanian translator Jurgita Mikutyte will read Kain’s texts in Lithuanian.
At this celebration of cultural exchange, Linz09 Deputy Artistic Director Ulrich Fuchs, will present Linz09’s literary program. “Vilnius Reads Linz” will be moderated by Cornelius Hell, who is also producer of the corresponding event in Linz. Lithuanian Literature Days (March 3-5) will present a multimedia portrait of the Baltic republic amidst an interesting lineup of literary events. Authors Tomas Venclova, Arūnas Balténas, Giedra Radvilaviciūté and Sigitas Parulskis will read from their works in StifterHaus.
