Pécs 2010 is on the Move
10.01.2007Together with Germany’s Ruhr District, the Hungarian city of Pécs will be Europe’s 2010 Capital of Culture. Pécs’ artistic director took office by the beginning of the year.
As of January 2007, Dr. Marton Méhes is in charge of the program for Pécs, Hungary’s European Capital of Culture in 2010. The 32-year-old Pécs native with a Ph.D in German language and literature has spent the last few years as assistant director of the Collegium Hungaricum, the Hungarian cultural institute in Berlin. Méhes has a profound knowledge of the culture of German-speaking Europe and intensively followed the application process in 2004-5 in Germany as well as in Hungary. In this connection, Martin Heller and Ulrich Fuchs from the Bremen perspective had excellent contacts with the Hungarian cultural institute and both of its directors.
