Linz 2009 - A Green Event
Linzer Gärten
From the very outset of preparations for the Capital of Culture year, Linz09 has been making every effort to take ecological considerations into account and to make long-term sustainability an essential part of our planning.
For starters in January 2006, a representative of the Linz09 staff attended a “green event” conference in Vienna. Austria's Ecology Institute had been commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management to stage this symposium in conjunction with Austria's presidency of the EU Council. We followed this up with a series of meetings over the course of 2006 at which Ecology Institute experts provided in-depth advice about project development for Linz09. On December 20, 2006, Province of Upper Austria’s Commissioner of Environmental Affairs Rudi Anschober hosted a workshop at which representatives of Linz09, Linz Kultur, Upper Austria’s Bureau of Cultural Affairs, the Ecology Institute and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management evaluated progress to date and worked out further steps. The presentation below summarizes additional information. (German only)
