Project Development Update
05.12.2006Ulrich Fuchs, head of project development for Linz09, provides a year-end recap of what’s been happening with the program of events for the Capital of Culture year.
The Linz09 website provides a good overview of the increasing number of preliminary projects that have been commissioned. At present, 61 studies from many different areas, styles and approaches are in various stages of development. At the very commencement of our cooperation with the staff members of these preliminary projects, we set up a series of appointments for intermediate and final presentations of their studies. The Linz09 artistic directors attend each of these meetings; between presentations, there’s ongoing coordination among the Linz09 organizational staff and the creative people developing the individual projects. Following a final presentation, the Linz09 artistic directors assess the outcome in order to provide an insightful rundown of each proposed project’s strengths and weaknesses in subsequent follow-up discussions with the project staff.Several such final presentations and follow-up discussions have already been held at the Linz09 headquarters on Gruberstraße. During the 1st quarter of 2007, the first decisions will be made about which projects get the final go-ahead.
Conceptual work in the areas of music and the performing arts is moving ahead as well. Peter Androsch has posted to the website a text elaborating on fundamental considerations in this area. Stay tuned for big news here in late January.
Contacts with artists from other European countries and around the world increasingly characterize our project development work.
Through cooperation and consultation with key figures in the local free-lance scene as well as the cultural institutions of the city and the province, the basic outlines of the 2009 program are beginning to take shape.
Discussions concerning the current project development situation are also held periodically with representatives of Linz Kultur, first and foremost to work out how to best integrate annually recurring Linz Kultur events like Festival 4020, the Linz Fest and the Pflasterspektakel into the 2009 Capital of Culture lineup.
