Improved Guidance for 2009 Visitors
On November 13, 2006 the city premiered a new concept for displaying tourist information designed to effectively guide pedestrian and vehicle traffic flows through downtown Linz.
In conjunction with the European Capital of Culture year, there’ll be a few innovative changes made to the network of street signs and tourist information displays throughout the city in order to facilitate visitor orientation through design enhancements featuring a system of efficient, high-impact graphics. The plan calls for 600 new signs at 260 locations providing directions to hotels, restaurants, shops, parking, etc. The aim is to simultaneously cut back on the amount of signage while achieving greater usability and thus making it a lot easier for guests to walk, ride or drive around Linz.In addition to an overall guidance system encompassing the entire city, there’ll also be a regional counterpart. On one level, a color-coded system directs the visitor to a particular destination sector; this is followed up by signs delivering specific directions to the particular hotel, parking lot, etc.
The planning, production and installation of the new guidance system will cost an estimated 150,000 euros. Planned date of completion is October 2007.
