Composer Keith Goddard from Harare will play a central role in the musical events of the capital of culture. For the first steps in the development of a project, Keith Goddard was a guest in Linz.Keith Goddard from Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, is a composer and prominent human rights activist – and not just in Africa. As a composer, he embodies the interlinking of various different cultures: European art music, African music traditions, committed cultural work in the Zimbabwean province and across the whole of southern Africa as well as ongoing development work.
In 1989, Goddard founded the Kunzwana Trust, which aims to promote musical development and traditional instrument making. In this regard, Goddard developed a special relationship with the folk group of the Tonga.
Since the first composition project with Austria composers Peter Androsch, Klaus Hollinetz, Lukas Ligeti and Werner Puntigam was held in 1997, the Tonga has repeatedly been used as a point of reference for a targeted cultural exchange programme which has come to prominence over recent years through the internet project Tonga.Online (www.mulonga.net).
Far beyond the boundaries of Europe, a musical project has been developed for the Linz capital of culture 2009 which Keith Goddard and Peter Androsch met to plan in Linz.
