“Listening to Peace” in the Brucknerhaus

Peace is a frequently recurring theme in the history of music: as an admonishment against war, as a critique of militarism or as a vision of true and lasting harmony. Works that are superb examples of this will be presented by “Listening to Peace,” a conversation concert set for June 29. Tickets are still available.
In 1986, Linz declared itself a city of peace. The search for works in which peace plays an essential role is thus endowed with very special significance here. The Anton Bruckner Private University’s symphony orchestra conducted by Ingo Ingensand will perform three such works from the 20th century: Concerto Funèbre by Karl Amadeus Hartmann, Arthur Honegger’s 3rd Symphony “Liturgique” and two pieces from Mauricio Kagel’s “Ten Marches to Miss the Victory.” The concert is thus showcasing works that are seldom performed, and augmenting them with an additional facet: Dieter Senghaas, a pioneer of peace studies and conflict research in German-speaking Europe, will explain and offer commentary on them.As a fitting prelude, Linz Music School cordially invites guests to visit a Peace Café at 5 PM in the Brucknerhaus Lobby, where peace-themed compositions going all the way back to the Middle Ages will be accompanied by readings of literary texts describing crisis and war.
