“Decisions – Entscheidungen” Opens
The next project in “The Ill Rabbit” series premieres on May 15. “Decisions – Entscheidungen” by Linz-native artist Christoph Mayer is meant to change the way we perceive things; it scrutinizes the human capacity to make a decision.
Visitors equipped with headphones enter a sequential array of totally white interior spaces that are isolated from the outside world and thus removed from familiar frames of reference. How does a decision take shape? What are its consequences? And do we really come to decisions as autonomously as we like to believe? This project also focuses on the moment at which such a decision a reached—for example, in a case of purported wrongdoing or even in the handing down of a death sentence.German social psychologist Harald Welzer will be present at the vernissage on May 15, 2009 at 7 PM. The author of such books as “Opa war kein Nazi” (Grandpa Was No Nazi) and “Klimakriege” (Climate Wars) is head of the Remembrance and Memory Research Group at the Essen Institute of Cultural Studies.
