The “Best of Austria” is attracting throngs of visitors, but it’s also polarizing them and raising their tempers! What are “the best” artworks and selects them? And is such a thing even admissible? The Lentos Art Museum Linz invites the public to attend a panel discussion.
The costliest, the best-known, the most highly publicized pictures and objects—just what is it, then, that does justice to the designation “best of”? Which criteria do works of art have to fulfill to be characterized as “the best”?These questions will occupy the focal point of attention at the “Best of” Austria? Pro und Con panel discussion set for Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 7 PM. The panelists: Prof. Roman Sandgruber, president of the Association of Upper Austrian Museums; Prof. Angelica Bäumer, cultural journalist and author; Stella Rollig, director of the Lentos Art Museum Linz; and Martin Heller, Linz09 artistic director. Bernhard Lichtenberger, cultural affairs editor of the OÖNachrichten newspaper, will serve as moderator.
