Bruckner and Haydn Strengthen Intercity Cultural Friendship

Classical music is establishing closer bonds between Capital of Culture candidate city Lüttich (Liège), Belgium and this year’s honoree, Linz. A concert featuring works by Haydn and Bruckner will be broadcast live on the internet.
The history of classical music is inseparably connected with Austria and with Linz in particular. This city was the birthplace of Anton Bruckner. Among other famous composers who lived and worked here are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Josef Haydn, the 200th anniversary of whose death is being observed this year.Now, Capital of Culture candidate city Lüttich (Liège), Belgium is underscoring its friendly ties to Linz, Europe’s 2009 Capital of Culture, with a classical concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège Wallonie-Bruxelles under Austrian conductor Théodor Guschlbauer. The January 15 performance of Haydn’s Symphony Nr. 77 and Bruckner’s Symphony Nr. 3 will be streamed live on the internet for the listening pleasure of music aficionados in Linz.
