It may sound improbable but it’s true – Linz’s industrial precinct boasts a cultural hotspot during Culture Capital Year: Hafenhalle09. Immediately after its solemn opening it became the scene of a triumph. The première of “The Book of Disquiet” was completely sold out.
“The Book of Disquiet”, which was preceded by the formal inauguration ceremony of Hafenhalle09, is an innovative music theatre take on Fernando Pessoa’s masterpiece by the composer and film and stage director Michel van der Aa. Klaus Maria Brandauer plays a leading part and the music is provided by Linz’s own Bruckner Orchestra under Dennis Russell Davies. The work was performed in the Great Hall, which has a floor space of 980 m2 and seats 370 on its tribune. The Hafenhalle also features the so-called “Studio”, with 450 m2 floor space and 99 seats.
The Hafenhalle09 was commissioned by the LinzAG and leased to Linz09 on completion. From 2010 it will be used by Linz AG as a container repair workshop.
